Ardrossan is a coastal town in North Ayrshire, on the Firth of Clyde. It is best known as the ferry port for the Isle of Arran, with sailings to Brodick, and the peaks of Arran dominate the view across the water.
The ruins of Ardrossan Castle stand on Castle Hill above the town, and South Beach stretches south towards Saltcoats with a promenade that is ideal for walking. The marina sits beside the harbour.
Princes Street and Glasgow Street form the town centre, with shops and cafés. Three railway stations serve the town, including Ardrossan Harbour for ferry connections.
Homes include sandstone villas, tenement flats, post-war estates and newer housing near the harbour. Many have stairs or steps.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran provides hospital care, and the North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership organises community services. Ardrossan patients are usually treated at University Hospital Crosshouse, and we provide private physiotherapy at home after discharge.
Goals include walking along South Beach, getting the train or taking the ferry to visit family on Arran.
The Ardrossan Civic Centre, the Glasgow Street shops and the seafront by the Pavilion are popular stops. Many families have links to Arran, and managing the walk down to the harbour is a common ambition before a crossing. The ruins of Ardrossan Castle on Castle Hill look out over the bay and the CalMac terminal for Arran, and the South Beach esplanade towards Saltcoats gives a long, level promenade walk. Many families also travel between Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston, so plans take account of those journeys.
