Physiotherapy Services in Scotland
This is the Scotland region page for Home Physio And Rehab. It is a signpost rather than a local page, explaining how our Scottish pages fit together so you can move to the hub nearest the person who needs treatment. Three hubs sit beneath it: Glasgow & West Scotland, Edinburgh, East & Central Scotland, and Aberdeen & North Scotland. Town pages will be added under each hub over time.
We have no clinic, office or branch in Scotland. Home Physio And Rehab is a home-visit company registered in Harrow, north-west London. The physiotherapist who visits may travel a long way, and visits can only be arranged where a suitable clinician is available, so the places named here describe the country rather than promise a visit. Please use the postcode checker.
The health system in Scotland is separate from England's. NHS Scotland is organised into fourteen territorial NHS boards, and community health and social care are planned jointly by each board and its council through a local health and social care partnership. A discharge letter will normally come from your NHS board, and any community rehabilitation, care package or equipment is arranged through the partnership. Scotland also provides free personal care to adults who are assessed as needing it. Private home physiotherapy does not replace any of this; it can be added alongside the support you already receive.
Scotland has thirty-two councils, ranging from dense city councils such as Glasgow and Dundee to vast rural areas like Highland and Argyll and Bute. Council occupational therapy teams and partnerships handle adaptations such as rails, ramps and stairlifts, and your physiotherapist can explain what to ask for.
Housing is a major factor. Tenement flats are common in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen, usually reached through a shared close and several flights of stone stairs with no lift. Cottage flats, four-in-a-block houses and post-war schemes are widespread in the towns. In the north and the Highlands many people live in farmhouses, crofts or small villages separated by long drives. A programme for someone on the third floor of a tenement looks very different from one for someone on a rural croft.
Most of Scotland's population lives in the Central Belt between Glasgow and Edinburgh, and that is where visits are most likely to be possible. Rural and island addresses are much harder for us to staff because of travel and ferry times, and we would rather tell you that honestly than raise false hope.
Home visits usually focus on walking and stairs, getting in and out of bed and chairs, recovering after an operation, a stroke or a fall, and staying active with a long-term condition. Exercises are fitted to your own home and routines.
