Physiotherapy Services in Ashington
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Ashington premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Ashington, in south-east Northumberland, was once described as the largest coal-mining village in the world. Long, straight rows of pit terraces, many still named after trees and plants, run in a grid across the town. The Pitmen Painters, a group of miners who became celebrated artists, came from here, and their work is shown at the Woodhorn Museum on the site of the old colliery.
The colliery rows are mostly two-storey terraces with steep, narrow stairs and back lanes behind. Hirst and Seaton Hirst have many of these rows, while newer estates and bungalows have been added on the edges. The town is largely flat, which helps once you are ready to walk outdoors.
Queen Elizabeth II Country Park, with its lake and paths on reclaimed colliery land, is a favourite place to build up walking, and the Woodhorn Museum is a popular goal. Station Road is the main shopping street. The Northumberland Line has restored passenger trains between Ashington and Newcastle, which makes longer trips possible again.
Wansbeck General Hospital, run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, stands in Ashington and provides many local services, with emergency care at the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington. NHS North East and North Cumbria plans services for the area. We visit independently and support your recovery at home.
Ashington is also the hometown of the footballing Charlton brothers and Jackie Milburn, and their statues and memorials are familiar sights around the centre. The town's back lanes, laid out for coal deliveries, are often the most practical way between streets, but their surfaces can be broken, so we include them carefully in outdoor practice. Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, just to the east, adds a level promenade for longer goals.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
