Physiotherapy Services in Baldock
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Baldock premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Baldock is a market town in North Hertfordshire, founded by the Knights Templar in the twelfth century. It sits where the old Great North Road crossed the Icknield Way, and its wide High Street reflects its long history as a coaching town.
The High Street is lined with Georgian and earlier buildings, and St Mary's church, with its tall spire, is one of the largest churches in the county. Whitehorse Street and Hitchin Street have independent shops and cafés.
Much of Baldock is fairly level, and the town centre is compact, which helps people who are rebuilding their walking. A short trip to the shops or a café is a common early target after an operation or a fall.
Housing ranges from old coaching inns and cottages in the centre to post-war estates and newer homes at Clothall Common. We help people manage stairs, low furniture and moving safely around their homes.
Baldock falls within NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board. Residents are usually treated at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, and once they come home we can continue rehabilitation privately.
The station has trains to London, Cambridge and Peterborough, and the A1 and A505 run close to town. Getting to the station or catching the bus to Letchworth is a practical goal for many people.
Villages such as Weston, Bygrave and Radwell are surrounded by farmland, with homes on quiet lanes. In these areas we help people deal with uneven ground, gates and roads without pavements.
Footpaths across the surrounding chalk countryside offer wide views, and once balance improves, they can be a rewarding next step in recovery.
Baldock once brewed beer on a large scale, and the former Kayser Bondor stocking factory on the High Street, with its striking Art Deco frontage, is now a supermarket. The Engine and Avenue parks, the Baldock Town Hall and the Arts and Heritage Centre on Hitchin Street are familiar stopping points, and short loops between them give people a measurable walk to repeat each week.
