Physiotherapy Services in Belper
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Belper premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Belper is a mill town in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, set in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Jedediah Strutt, a partner of Richard Arkwright, built cotton mills here in the 1770s, and the great East Mill and the earlier North Mill still dominate the riverside. The Strutt family also built rows of workers' cottages, many of which survive.
King Street and Bridge Street hold the main shops and cafés, and the town is known for its independent businesses. Belper River Gardens, beside the Derwent, have level paths, a bandstand and rowing boats in summer. The town itself is steep in places, with the old Market Place and Long Row rising up the hillside.
Housing includes stone mill cottages, Victorian terraces, inter-war semis and newer estates on the edges. The steep streets and older houses with narrow stairs can be challenging after surgery or a stroke.
Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS care. Belper patients are usually treated at the Royal Derby Hospital, which is a short trip down the A6. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery at home.
Belper station has trains to Derby and Matlock, and buses run along the A6. Gentle strolls in the River Gardens, getting up King Street and catching the train to Derby are among the things patients most often want back.
Belper's nail-makers once worked in small backyard forges, and the town's nickname, the Nailers, still appears on the football club's badge. The Chevin, a long ridge between Belper and Milford, has a historic packhorse route along its top with superb views of the Derwent Valley, which makes it an ambitious later goal. Closer to home, Belper Parks local nature reserve offers wildflower meadows and gentle paths, and Christ Church Meadow beside the river is used for events and festivals through the summer months.
