Bexhill-on-Sea is a seaside town in the Rother district of East Sussex, between Hastings and Eastbourne. It became a resort in the late nineteenth century, and the modernist De La Warr Pavilion, opened in 1935, is one of its best-known buildings. The town has one of the oldest populations in England.
Large Edwardian houses, many now divided into flats, line the streets near the seafront, while Little Common, Cooden and Collington have bungalows and detached homes. Sidley to the north has older terraces. Many residents live alone, and stairs in converted flats can be a concern after illness.
The seafront promenade is long, level and has plenty of shelters and seats, which makes it ideal for rebuilding walking. Egerton Park has a lake and flat paths close to the town centre, and the coastal route towards Cooden offers a longer challenge.
Many people from Bexhill are treated at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings or Eastbourne District General Hospital, both run by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and Bexhill Hospital provides some outpatient and rehabilitation services. We are independent of the Trust and can build on the guidance you were given there.
The De La Warr Pavilion anchors the seafront, and the flat promenade towards Galley Hill suits gentle walking practice. Inland, Sidley, Little Common and Cooden have many bungalows and retirement flats, and the town has one of the older populations on the south coast.
