Physiotherapy Services in Cambridge
Cambridge is a compact, flat city in Cambridgeshire, and the City Council area is ringed by South Cambridgeshire district. Most people think first of the colleges, but most residents live in ordinary houses and flats well away from them. Home Physio And Rehab has no clinic or office in Cambridge. We see patients in their own homes, and the physiotherapist who visits may travel in from elsewhere. Whether a visit is possible depends on your full postcode and on who is free at the time, so please check yours using the tool on this page.
That matters for rehabilitation, because the route you need to manage is your own. Romsey and the streets off Mill Road have long rows of Victorian terraces with steep stairs and narrow halls; Chesterton and Arbury, in the north, have more inter-war and post-war semis; and Trumpington, Eddington and the southern fringe have many new flats and town houses with lifts, long corridors or three storeys of stairs. These are examples, not a list of places we can reach.
Cambridge is a city of bikes. For a lot of patients, the goal that matters is getting back on one, or at least feeling confident walking on a shared path while cyclists pass. Others want to manage the walk to a bus stop, the uneven pavements near the market or the path beside the guided busway. We start with the basics inside the house, such as stairs, the bath and getting out of a chair, and build towards these outside goals only when it is safe.
Many people in the city come home after treatment at Addenbrooke's Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, while others have had surgery elsewhere. Home Physio And Rehab is independent and is not part of the NHS or of the hospital. Please share your discharge letter and any precautions at the first visit, and we will follow that advice rather than starting from scratch.
We also work with families, carers and anyone else who helps you at home. That might be a partner learning how to support you on the stairs, or a relative who calls in a few times a week and wants to know which exercises to encourage. Sessions are planned around your routine and the things you want to get back to, from a walk by the river at Jesus Green to a trip into town on the bus.
