Carryduff is a large village in Lisburn and Castlereagh, a short way south of Belfast on the road to Saintfield. It grew rapidly from the 1960s onwards as families moved out from the city, and it is now a busy commuter community.
The village centre includes a shopping centre, cafés, churches and community facilities. Lough Moss Leisure Centre has a pool, gym and fitness classes, and the surrounding area includes playing fields and green space.
The Lagan Valley Regional Park lies to the west, with riverside paths, woodland and the Giant's Ring ancient monument near Drumbo. Rolling countryside surrounds Carryduff, with quiet lanes towards Temple and Mealough.
Homes are mostly detached and semi-detached houses and bungalows on estates built from the 1960s onwards, with newer developments on the edges of the village. Many have driveways with slopes and steps at the front door.
Carryduff is covered by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. People are often treated at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald or, for orthopaedic surgery, at Musgrave Park Hospital in Belfast. We continue their recovery privately at home.
There is no railway station, but Metro and Ulsterbus services link Carryduff with Belfast city centre. Common goals include walking to the shops, returning to Lough Moss or getting out on the Lagan towpath.
Lough Moss Leisure Centre is a good target for people wanting to return to swimming or classes, and we work on the strength and stamina needed first.
The Lagan towpath near Edenderry is flat and quiet, which suits longer walks once someone is confident on village pavements.
