Physiotherapy Services in Chester-le-Street
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Chester-le-Street premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Chester-le-Street, in County Durham, grew up on the site of a Roman fort called Concangis beside the River Wear. In the ninth and tenth centuries, the monks carrying the body of St Cuthbert settled here for over a century before moving on to Durham, and the parish church of St Mary and St Cuthbert marks the spot.
Today the town is best known for its cricket ground at the Riverside, home of Durham County Cricket Club, with Lumley Castle looking down from the hill across the river. Riverside Park, alongside the Wear, has level paths, play areas and the cricket ground itself, and is the town’s main place for a gentle walk.
Front Street, the long main shopping street, runs gently downhill towards the river. A tall viaduct strides over the town, carrying the East Coast Main Line, and Chester-le-Street station has trains to Newcastle and Durham. Houses range from colliery terraces in Pelton and Sacriston to post-war estates and newer homes on the edges.
North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans NHS services here, with most people treated at the University Hospital of North Durham. Our home physiotherapy is private and independent and carries on after people come home.
Goals often include walking in Riverside Park, getting up and down Front Street or catching the train to Newcastle. Some former mining villages around the town are hilly, so we work on slopes and stamina as well as stairs at home.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
