Clacton-on-Sea is the largest town in the Tendring district of Essex, a Victorian seaside resort built around its pier and sandy beaches. It remains a popular holiday destination, and many people retire here, so the town has a large population of older residents living in bungalows and flats.
Great Clacton, the original village, has older cottages around the church, while Rush Green, Bockings Elm and Cann Hall are made up of post-war semis and bungalows. Holland-on-Sea to the east is almost entirely bungalows, and Jaywick to the west has many small chalet-style homes built as holiday plots.
The promenade and sea wall stretch a long way and are flat, wide and lined with seats and shelters, so they are ideal for building stamina. The Martello tower area and the gardens on the cliff top provide shorter routes for people who are just starting to walk outdoors again.
Colchester Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust, provides most surgical and emergency care, and Clacton Hospital offers some outpatient and community services. NHS care is planned by the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board. Our home physiotherapy is private and separate from the NHS.
Clacton station has direct trains to Colchester and London Liverpool Street, and bus routes link the town to Frinton and Walton. Goals people set here are often practical, such as walking to the Pier Avenue shops, managing a bus trip into Colchester or getting down onto the beach again.
