Physiotherapy Services in Coalville
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Coalville premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Coalville is a town in the North West Leicestershire district, created in the nineteenth century around the coal mines of the Leicestershire coalfield. The town took its name from Coalville House, home of the mine owner William Stenson, and spread outwards from the pits at Whitwick, Snibston and Ellistown. Its distinctive clock tower war memorial stands in Memorial Square at the centre.
Snibston Colliery Park, on the site of the old mine, keeps its headstocks and has wide, level paths, which make it a good place for early walking. The Charnwood Forest rises just to the east, with Bardon Hill, the highest point in Leicestershire, and the rocky outcrops around Whitwick and Thringstone offer more demanding walks.
Housing is mainly terraces and semis built for mining families, along with large post-war estates and very new developments around Hugglescote and Bardon. Many patients are former miners or their families, and breathing problems, back pain and joint replacements are common reasons people contact us.
Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board plans NHS care. Coalville patients are usually treated at Leicester Royal Infirmary or Glenfield Hospital, with some services at Coalville Community Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy continues the rehabilitation.
Coalville has had no passenger railway for decades, so buses to Leicester and Loughborough matter. Patients here frequently want to get to Belvoir Road and the town centre, walk round Snibston or travel into Leicester for the day.
Coalville grew up around the Whitwick and Snibston collieries, and the clock tower war memorial at Memorial Square remains the focal point of the centre. The former Snibston pit site is now a country park with lakeside paths and reclaimed grassland. Bardon Hill, the highest point in Leicestershire, looks out over Charnwood Forest, and the nearby Thringstone and Grace Dieu trail along an old tramway gives a mostly gentle gradient for those ready to venture beyond pavement walking.
