Dalton-in-Furness was once the chief town of the Furness peninsula, long before Barrow grew into an industrial city. Its fourteenth century pele tower, Dalton Castle, still stands on the Market Place.
The castle was built by the monks of Furness Abbey, whose red sandstone ruins lie in a wooded valley just south of the town. The abbey grounds offer gentle paths for walkers recovering their stamina.
Iron ore mining brought rapid growth in the nineteenth century, and many streets of stone terraces date from that period. The painter George Romney was born here in 1734.
Furness General Hospital in Barrow is the nearest major hospital, with some orthopaedic and specialist work in Lancaster or Kendal. After discharge, our team supports recovery in your own home.
Market Street and Tudor Square hold the shops, cafés and pharmacy. The town is built on a hillside, and climbing back up to the Market Place is often a key goal in therapy.
South Lakes Safari Zoo sits on the edge of town and draws visitors from across the north west, while the Cumbria Coastal Way passes close by.
Askam and Ireleth look out over the sands of the Duddon estuary, Lindal sits on the old ore fields, and Newton and Marton are tiny rural hamlets with narrow lanes.
Dalton station sits on the Furness line between Lancaster and Barrow, and stone cottages in the area often have narrow stairs that we address in sessions.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
