Physiotherapy Services in Garforth
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Garforth premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Garforth is a town on the eastern edge of Leeds, West Yorkshire, close to the A1(M) and M1. It grew around coal mining and later became a popular commuter town, with good rail links to Leeds and York from Garforth and East Garforth stations.
Main Street has a mix of shops, cafés and pubs, and the library and leisure centre are well used. Lotherton Hall, an Edwardian country house with gardens and a bird garden, lies just to the north-east near Aberford.
Barwick-in-Elmet, a short drive north, is famous for its tall maypole, raised every three years. Kippax and Swillington, to the south-west, have woodland and lakes at the Fairburn Ings and St Aidan's nature reserves for those ready for longer walks.
Housing is a mix of stone cottages, post-war estates and large modern developments. Many residents are older, and stairs, steps and garden paths are often the focus of rehabilitation.
NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board plans local services, and most Garforth patients are treated at St James's University Hospital or Leeds General Infirmary. Our home physiotherapy continues their recovery after discharge.
Patients often want to walk to Main Street, visit Lotherton Hall or get back to golf and gardening.
Garforth's Isabella and Sisters collieries closed decades ago, but the miners' welfare hall still hosts dances, quizzes and brass band evenings. The Ninelands Lane shops and the Garforth Arms corner are recognisable meeting points, and Glebelands playing fields give a flat circuit beside the cricket club. Rothwell Country Park, built on another old pit site to the south-west, has easy reclaimed trails, and the restored Aberford almshouses make a handsome stop on a short drive out.
