Physiotherapy Services in Hailsham
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Hailsham premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Hailsham is a market town in the Wealden district of East Sussex, set on low ground between the South Downs and the Weald. It has held a market since the thirteenth century, and its cattle market is still one of the few working livestock markets left in the south east. For generations the town was known for rope and twine making, and local firms supplied cord to the navy and, famously, the hangman.
The Cuckoo Trail, a walking and cycling path along a former railway line, runs right through the town between Polegate and Heathfield. It is level, surfaced and dotted with sculptures and benches, which makes it one of the best outdoor rehab routes around. Hailsham Common Pond, on the western edge of the centre, gives a shorter loop with ducks and seats.
Hailsham has grown rapidly since the 1970s, and most homes are modern estates of semis, bungalows and newer detached houses, alongside older cottages near St Mary’s Church and the High Street. The town lost its own station in 1968, so people rely on buses to Eastbourne or the train from nearby Polegate.
NHS Sussex, the integrated care board, plans services in the area, and most residents go to Eastbourne District General Hospital for emergencies and surgery. We provide private, independent physiotherapy at home that continues on from that care rather than duplicating it.
Older residents here often want to get back to the Cuckoo Trail, the Pavilion cinema, the High Street shops or Michelham Priory and Herstmonceux Castle nearby. Many live in bungalows, so stairs are less of an issue than getting in and out of the car and building enough stamina for a proper walk.
