Physiotherapy Services in Haslingden
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Haslingden premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Haslingden is a hilltop mill town in the Rossendale borough of Lancashire, one of the highest towns in the county. It grew on wool and cotton, and quarrying for the hard local sandstone gave work to many families. Deardengate, the steep main street, climbs through the town centre to the parish church of St James.
Haslingden Grane, a valley to the west, was once home to a thriving farming community that left when reservoirs were built. Its ruined farmsteads, Calf Hey and Ogden reservoirs and the Clough Head information centre are linked by good paths. Helmshore, just to the south, has the Helmshore Mills Textile Museum, with a working water wheel.
Housing is mostly stone terraces built for millworkers, with steep stairs and front steps, plus newer estates on the edges. Haslingden's hills are a challenge in almost every direction, and winter weather adds to the difficulty for older residents.
Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Haslingden patients are usually treated at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital or Fairfield General Hospital in Bury. Our private home physiotherapy continues their rehabilitation at home.
The town has no railway, but buses run to Accrington, Rawtenstall, Blackburn and Manchester. Patients often want to manage Deardengate again, walk around the Grane reservoirs or visit the Helmshore museum.
Haslingden stands high on the Rossendale hillside, and Deardengate, its steep main shopping street, is a real test for anybody recovering leg strength. The Halo, a glowing steel panopticon on Top o' Slate, has become a modern landmark above town. Haslingden Grane, a valley abandoned when its reservoirs were built, now has walks around Ogden, Calf Hey and Holden Wood, and the Helmshore textile mills museum nearby recalls the cotton and woollen trades that once filled every terrace.
