Physiotherapy Services in Hitchin
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Hitchin premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Hitchin is an old market town in North Hertfordshire, with a medieval street plan, timber-framed buildings and a busy Market Place. St Mary’s, beside the River Hiz, is the largest parish church in the county, and the British Schools Museum preserves Victorian classrooms. The town still holds a regular outdoor market.
Housing includes period cottages and townhouses near the centre, Victorian terraces around the station and large post-war estates in Westmill and Purwell. Period cottages frequently have steep stairs and steps down to gardens, while newer houses are usually easier to adapt.
Hitchin station has fast trains to London King’s Cross and Cambridge, and Thameslink services across London. The paths beside the River Hiz and Oughtonhead Common are fairly flat, and Windmill Hill, overlooking the town centre, makes a good goal for stronger walkers.
Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board plans NHS services, with the Lister Hospital in Stevenage providing most acute care. Our private home visits continue recovery after discharge.
Many patients want to get back to the market, the shops in the town centre or walks by the river. We base sessions on those journeys, from stairs and transfers at home to walking around town.
In summer the lavender fields at Cadwell Farm, just north of the town near Ickleford, draw crowds, while the Churchyard beside St Mary’s and the lanes of Bancroft and Sun Street hold most of the cafés. For plenty of residents, browsing the market stalls again or meeting a friend in Bancroft is the moment recovery starts to feel real.
