Ince-in-Makerfield, usually known simply as Ince, is a town just south-east of Wigan town centre in Greater Manchester. Its history is rooted in coal mining and engineering, and the surrounding landscape was shaped by collieries.
Amberswood Common, a former colliery site now a nature reserve, has lakes and paths, while the Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs nearby with a flat towpath. Ince Moss, another restored area, provides more green space.
Ince's shops along Manchester Road meet daily needs, and Wigan's town centre is close by. Ince station and buses link the area to Wigan and Manchester.
Homes include terraced streets, inter-war semis, post-war estates and newer developments. Many older properties have steep stairs and narrow hallways.
NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board commissions care. Ince patients are usually treated at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, and we provide private physiotherapy at home following discharge.
Goals include walking to Manchester Road, along the canal or around Amberswood, and getting the bus into Wigan.
Ince Park, the Ince Community Centre and the canal bridge at Rose Bridge are familiar local markers, and the walk into Wigan town centre along Manchester Road makes a natural longer-term aim. Many patients have family nearby and want to manage visits on foot again. The Ince Moss wetland viewing points and the old Pennington Flash routes beyond Platt Bridge give longer walks once confidence returns.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
