Physiotherapy Services in Largs
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Largs premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Largs sits on the North Ayrshire coast on the Firth of Clyde, looking across to the island of Great Cumbrae. In 1263 the Battle of Largs ended Norse control of the Scottish west coast, and a tall stone tower known as the Pencil, on the shore south of town, commemorates the battle. The Vikingar centre tells the story of the Norse in Scotland.
The promenade is long, flat and beautifully kept, with views of Millport and Arran, and it is the most popular walking route in town. Nardini's, the Art Deco ice cream parlour on the seafront, has been a landmark since 1935. The town centre around Main Street and Gallowgate is compact, though streets rise steeply inland.
Largs is a popular retirement destination, with many bungalows, flats and Victorian villas. Many of our patients are older people who want to keep enjoying the promenade, the cafés and the ferry to Cumbrae.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran provides local health services, working with North Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership. Largs patients are usually treated at University Hospital Crosshouse, with some services at Largs Health Centre. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery.
Largs station has trains to Glasgow, and the ferry from the pier crosses to Cumbrae every few minutes in summer. Patients often want to walk the prom, take the ferry or reach the Pencil again.
Largs is famous for the 1263 battle in which Scottish forces turned back King Haakon's Norse fleet, commemorated by the slender tower locals call the Pencil. Nardini's ice-cream parlour on the seafront has been a family favourite since the 1930s. The short ferry crossing to Great Cumbrae and the bike-friendly road around Millport make a popular day out, and Kelburn Castle, with its graffiti-painted tower and glen walks, sits just south of the town.
