Physiotherapy Services in Newton Aycliffe
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Newton Aycliffe premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Newton Aycliffe was built as a new town in County Durham from 1947, on the site of a wartime munitions factory, and it was planned as a place where everyone could walk to work, shops and schools. The Aycliffe Business Park is now one of the largest in the north-east, and the Hitachi rail factory there builds intercity trains for the UK network.
The town is divided into neighbourhoods, each with its own open spaces and local shops, linked by footpaths that run away from the main roads. Housing is mostly terraced and semi-detached homes built between the 1950s and 1980s, with newer estates around Woodham and Middridge. Many homes have a straight staircase and a small step at the door, and bungalows are common for older residents.
The centre is pedestrianised and level, making it a good first goal once you are confident outdoors. Woodham Burn, Simpasture and the green corridors between neighbourhoods give longer walks, and Aycliffe Village, the older settlement to the south, has a pleasant green. Newton Aycliffe station is small, so most people rely on buses to Darlington, Durham and Bishop Auckland.
Hospital care is provided mainly by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, with Darlington Memorial Hospital as the nearest acute site and the University Hospital of North Durham for some services. NHS planning is through the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. Our home visits are independent, so share any discharge letters and we will build on them.
