Physiotherapy Services in Penrith
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Penrith premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Penrith is a market town in the Westmorland and Furness area of Cumbria, on the north-eastern edge of the Lake District. It was once the capital of the ancient kingdom of Cumbria, and its red sandstone buildings give it a warm colour. Penrith Castle, built in the fourteenth century to defend against Scottish raids and later held by Richard III, stands in ruins opposite the station.
The town centre around Market Square, Devonshire Street and Middlegate is compact, with independent shops and a weekly market. Castle Park offers flat paths and gardens, and Beacon Hill, topped by a stone beacon, gives a steeper walk with views over the fells. Ullswater is only a short drive away.
Housing includes sandstone terraces, Victorian villas and post-war estates at Pategill and Scaws, with newer homes at Carleton. Many residents are farmers or retired people from across the Eden Valley, and long journeys for hospital appointments make home rehabilitation especially valuable.
North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans NHS care. Penrith patients are usually treated at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, with some services at Penrith Community Hospital. Our private home physiotherapy continues their recovery.
Penrith North Lakes station is on the West Coast Main Line, with trains to Carlisle, Glasgow and London. Patients often want to walk to the market, enjoy Castle Park or visit Ullswater.
Penrith's red sandstone castle ruins stand opposite the station, and the Beacon pike on the wooded hill above town was once lit to warn of Scottish raiders. In St Andrew's churchyard, the Giant's Grave, a group of ancient crosses and hogback stones, intrigues visitors. Brougham Castle beside the River Eamont and the Rheged centre on the A66 are popular outings, and Ullswater, a short drive south-west, offers lakeshore paths for patients ready to return to the fells gradually.
