Physiotherapy Services in Port Glasgow
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Port Glasgow premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Port Glasgow was founded in the seventeenth century as a harbour for Glasgow merchants, at a time when the Clyde was too shallow for ships to reach the city. It became one of the great shipbuilding towns, and the Ferguson yard still builds vessels on the river. A replica of Henry Bell’s Comet, Europe’s first commercial passenger steamship, stands in the town centre, and the sixteenth-century Newark Castle sits right on the shoreline.
The town is built on a narrow strip by the water, with estates such as Slaemuir, Bardrainney and Park Farm climbing the hillside behind. Gradients are serious here: some streets are steep enough to make a short walk to the shops feel like a hill climb after surgery. Flats with shared stairs are common, as are houses with steps at both doors.
Port Glasgow station and Woodhall station sit on the line between Glasgow and Gourock or Wemyss Bay, and buses run along the coast to Greenock. The shorefront path towards Newark Castle is flat and has views across to Ardmore and the hills of Argyll, which makes it an excellent place to rebuild walking confidence.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde runs Inverclyde Royal Hospital in neighbouring Greenock, and the Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership organises community rehabilitation and care at home. Our visits are private, and we are glad to keep a hospital exercise plan going after discharge.
Older residents often spent decades in the yards, the sugar refineries or local engineering, and many now live with joint pain, breathing difficulties or reduced balance. Because of the hills, planning a sensible route between home, the bus stop and the shops is often as useful as the exercises themselves.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
