Physiotherapy Services in Retford
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Retford premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Retford, in the Bassetlaw district of north Nottinghamshire, is an old market town on the River Idle. Its handsome Market Square, surrounded by Georgian buildings and the town hall, hosts markets several days a week, and the Russian cannon captured during the Crimean War still stands nearby. The town grew as a stop on the Great North Road.
Housing includes Georgian and Victorian townhouses around the centre, terraces near the station, and post-war and modern estates in Ordsall and Moorgate. Many older homes have tall, steep stairs, while bungalows in the outer estates and villages offer easier living after surgery.
Kings Park, beside the River Idle in the town centre, has level paths, gardens and benches, and the Chesterfield Canal towpath runs through Retford for longer walks. Retford station is on the East Coast Main Line, with trains to London, Doncaster and Lincoln, and buses serve Worksop and Gainsborough.
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Retford Hospital offers community care, with Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop handling most acute treatment. Our private home visits follow on from those services.
Many patients want to get back to market days, walking in Kings Park or visiting family in nearby villages. We base sessions on those activities, building strength, balance and confidence step by step.
East and West Retford face each other across the Idle, joined by bridges a short walk from the square. The Bassetlaw Museum, in the Georgian Amcott House on Grove Street, tells the story of the district, and Cannon Square takes its name from that Crimean War gun. For many older patients a weekly trip to the market, where stallholders know them by name, becomes a natural measure of progress.
