Physiotherapy Services in Rhymney
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Rhymney premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Rhymney sits at the very top of the Rhymney Valley in Caerphilly county borough. It grew around ironworks founded at the start of the nineteenth century and later became a coal mining town.
The poet Idris Davies was born here, and his lines were turned into the folk song The Bells of Rhymney. The town remains proud of that link and of its strong chapel and choir tradition.
Rows of stone terraces follow the contours of the hillside, with steep cross streets between them. For many clients, climbing back up from the shops is the first real target of rehabilitation.
At this height the weather can turn quickly, bringing mist, wind and occasional snow in winter. We plan home exercises that can be done in a small living room whatever the conditions outside.
Hospital care for the upper valley is usually provided at the Grange University Hospital near Cwmbran, with Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan in Ebbw Vale close by for outpatient clinics. Home visits then help you build on that care.
The Lawn, near the town centre, was once the heart of the ironworks community and is now an open space. Its level ground gives a calm place for an early walk with a carer.
Pontlottyn lies just down the valley, its terraces strung along the main road and railway. Many houses open straight onto the pavement, so stepping safely over the threshold is practised often.
Abertysswg is a former pit village on the eastern side of the valley, laid out on a gridded hillside. Short daily loops of its streets help clients rebuild leg strength steadily.
Fochriw and Deri sit on the western upland and further south, surrounded by common land and old tramroads. Their open tracks suit fitter clients aiming for longer countryside walks.
Tredegar and Bargoed, the larger towns on either side, hold supermarkets and leisure centres. A return trip to one of these is a common practical goal later in recovery.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.
