Physiotherapy Services in Royston
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Royston premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Royston is a former mining village a few miles north of Barnsley, close to the boundary with Wakefield. Monckton Colliery and the coking works once employed much of the community, and many families still trace their roots back to the pits.
The parish church of St John the Baptist, with its distinctive oriel window in the tower, has stood over the village for centuries. Midland Road and the High Street hold most of the shops, takeaways and community buildings.
The line of the old Barnsley Canal passes along the eastern side of Royston, and stretches of its towpath now make quiet, fairly level walking routes. Greenspaces around the former colliery land have been planted and opened up for local use.
Housing is mostly brick terraces, former Coal Board semis and bungalows, alongside newer estates built on old industrial land. Many terraces have steep stairs and a step down to the back yard, which we include in practice.
Royston falls under NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. Most local patients are treated at Barnsley Hospital on Gawber Road, and after discharge we continue their recovery privately at home.
The railway station closed long ago, but buses run to Barnsley Interchange and to Wakefield. People here usually want to walk to the Midland Road shops, the club or their grandchildren's school again.
Older terraces often have outside toilets converted into store rooms and a narrow passage to the back, so we look at how someone reaches their bins and washing line as well as their front door.
The canal towpath gives a flat, traffic-free route for longer walks once a person can manage the slope from the High Street safely.

Helping active people recover from sports injuries and safely return to sport and performance.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.
