Physiotherapy Services in Rye
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Rye premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Rye is a small medieval town in the Rother district of East Sussex. It stands on a sandstone hill above Romney Marsh and was once a busy port, a member of the Cinque Ports confederation.
Mermaid Street, with its steep cobbles and timber-framed houses, is one of the most photographed streets in England. Those cobbles are hard on the feet, so we usually avoid them early in recovery.
The Ypres Tower, built in the thirteenth century, guards the southern edge of the town. Below it, the Gun Garden looks out over the river and the marsh towards the sea.
Lamb House, once home to the writer Henry James, sits close to St Mary's Church at the top of the hill. Many streets around the church are narrow and uneven, which affects how we plan walks.
Hospital care for Rye is mainly provided at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings. Our physiotherapists can visit you at home soon after discharge so recovery continues without a break.
The Strand Quay, at the foot of the hill, has antique shops in old warehouses and level pavements. It is a pleasant, flat area for clients to practise longer walks.
Rye Harbour, down the river, has a large nature reserve with firm paths across shingle and marsh. Its level trails are excellent for building stamina in open surroundings.
Camber, beyond the river, is known for Camber Sands and its dunes. Walking on soft sand is tiring, so it is kept as a challenge for the later stages of rehabilitation.
Playden and Peasmarsh lie to the north on rising farmland with orchards and country roads. Homes there are often spread out, with gardens and driveways to practise on.
Winchelsea, to the west, is another ancient town on a hill with a grid of quiet streets. Iden, to the north, is a small village with a green and a church.
