Physiotherapy Services in Sandy
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Sandy premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Sandy is a small market town in Central Bedfordshire, on the River Ivel and close to the A1. Its name comes from the sandy soil of the greensand ridge, which rises to the east of the town and gives fine views over the valley.
The RSPB has its headquarters at The Lodge, a nature reserve on the edge of town with heathland, woodland and waymarked trails. The shorter trails near the entrance are a good place to build stamina once someone is walking steadily outside.
The town centre is mostly level, with the Market Square, High Street and local shops close together. Walking to the shops or a café is a realistic early goal for many people after surgery or a fall.
Housing includes Victorian terraces near the centre, post-war estates and newer developments. We often help people with stairs, bathroom access and getting up from low chairs and beds.
Sandy falls within NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board. Residents are usually treated at Bedford Hospital, and once they are discharged we can continue rehabilitation privately at home.
The station on the East Coast Main Line has trains to London and Peterborough, and buses run to Bedford and Biggleswade. Getting to the station or the bus stop is a practical goal we often work on.
Beeston and Girtford lie across the river, with level riverside paths along the Ivel. Everton sits on the ridge, where homes are on hilly lanes and we prepare people for slopes and uneven ground.
Market gardening has a long history here, and many people still keep vegetable plots, so bending, kneeling and getting back up are often part of our later sessions.
Sandy Heath carries a tall television transmitter mast that can be seen across much of Bedfordshire, and Galley Hill and Caesar's Camp, an Iron Age hillfort, lie along the greensand ridge. The riverside by the Ivel near the town centre has short flat stretches with seats, which suits people practising a first outdoor walk with a stick or rollator.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.
