Sanquhar is a small town in upper Nithsdale, in Dumfries and Galloway. It is a royal burgh with a long history, set in a green valley ringed by hills.
The town's post office, opened in 1712, is believed to be the oldest working post office in the world. It still stands on the High Street, a short walk from the town centre.
Sanquhar is also known for its distinctive knitting patterns, worked in two colours to make gloves and socks. The local museum in the old Tolbooth tells their story.
The ruins of Sanquhar Castle stand on a rise at the south end of town, overlooking the River Nith. The grassy ground around them is uneven, so it suits clients who are already steady.
Most hospital treatment for the region is provided at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary in Dumfries. After you come home, we can visit you to continue your recovery.
The High Street is long and straight with a gentle slope, lined with stone houses and shops. It is a practical first route for regular walks once you are ready.
The Southern Upland Way passes through the town on its way across Scotland. Short sections of it near Sanquhar give a firm path for later walking goals.
Kirkconnel and Kelloholm lie further up the valley and were coal mining villages. Their terraced streets and newer estates have mostly gentle gradients.
Mennock and Wanlockhead lie to the east, up the Mennock Pass, where Wanlockhead is Scotland's highest village. The climate there is harsh, so indoor exercise is important.
Crawick, just north of town, has the Crawick Multiverse land art site. Thornhill, further down the valley, has larger shops and a wide main street.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
