Physiotherapy Services in Sedbergh
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Sedbergh premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Sedbergh is a small market town in Westmorland and Furness, inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It nestles at the foot of the Howgill Fells, whose rounded green hills rise steeply behind the houses.
The town is known as England's book town, with several independent bookshops along its narrow Main Street. Browsing them is a calm and enjoyable reason to get out for a short walk.
Sedbergh School, founded in the sixteenth century, occupies a large part of the town and its playing fields. The school's famous fell race, the Wilson Run, gives a sense of how hilly the area is.
Main Street is narrow and slopes gently, with few places to stop. We often begin with short trips to a nearby bench or shop before extending the route.
Most surgery for this area is done at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary or Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal. Home visits remove the need to travel those winding roads for follow-up care.
The River Rawthey flows past the south side of the town, with a riverside footpath through meadows. Its mostly level surface is a pleasant step up from street walking.
Millthrop, just across the Rawthey, is a tiny hamlet of old mill cottages. The lane over the bridge makes a short and rewarding loop from the town centre.
Dent, in its own dale to the south-east, has cobbled streets and whitewashed cottages. Those cobbles are uneven, so clients there practise on smoother surfaces first.
Garsdale and Cautley are remote valleys where farms are scattered along narrow roads. Cautley Spout, one of England's highest waterfalls, tumbles from the Howgills nearby.
Winters here can be cold and wet, with snow on the fells. A home exercise programme keeps progress going when walking outside is not practical.

Helping active people recover from sports injuries and safely return to sport and performance.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.
