Physiotherapy Services in Shaftesbury
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Shaftesbury premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Shaftesbury is a hilltop town in north Dorset, perched over 200 metres above the Blackmore Vale. King Alfred founded an abbey here in the ninth century, and the town became one of the most important in Saxon England.
Gold Hill, the steep cobbled street lined with thatched cottages, became famous through the Hovis bread advert. It is beautiful but challenging, and few people with mobility problems can manage it without support.
Park Walk, along the edge of the hill beside the abbey ruins, is flat and offers wide views across the vale. It is ideal for early walking practice with a reward of scenery.
Shaftesbury is covered by NHS Dorset Integrated Care Board. Many residents are treated at Salisbury District Hospital, and Westminster Memorial Hospital in the town provides some local care. Our private visits can continue rehabilitation at home.
The High Street and Bell Street hold the shops, with a weekly market. Older properties in the centre often have steep stairs and steps at the front door, while newer estates lie on the eastern side.
St James and Enmore Green lie below the town's ridge, with steep roads such as Tanyard Lane and St John's Hill leading up into the centre. For people living there, the climb can be the biggest challenge of their day.
Melbury Hill and Win Green rise to the south-east on Cranborne Chase. These downland walks are a long-term aim for keen walkers.
