Physiotherapy Services in Stoke-on-Trent
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Stoke-on-Trent. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist who visits you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Stoke-on-Trent is really six towns joined together: Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton, each with its own centre and high street. Much of the housing grew up around the pottery works, so rows of two-up two-down terraces with steep, boxed-in staircases and an outside step to the pavement are common. Elsewhere you find 1930s semis in Trentham and Penkhull, post-war estates in Meir and Bentilee, and a growing number of retirement flats close to the shops in Hanley.
The city sits on rolling ground above the Trent valley, and roads such as those climbing out of Burslem or up to Sandford Hill are hard work after a fall or an operation. A sensible plan often starts with stairs, getting on and off a bed or sofa and walking to the end of the street, then builds towards the bus into Hanley, a trip to Trentham Gardens or a stroll round Westport Lake, which is flat and has benches.
Royal Stoke University Hospital is the main hospital for the area and a major trauma centre, so many people come home after orthopaedic surgery or a serious injury. We are independent of it and of the NHS, and your records are not passed to us automatically, so please have your discharge summary and any movement restrictions ready when we first talk.
