Stowmarket is the largest town in Mid Suffolk, sitting on the River Gipping between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds. It developed as a market town and later around the Stowmarket Navigation, which carried goods to Ipswich. The Food Museum, formerly the Museum of East Anglian Life, occupies a large riverside site on the edge of the town centre.
The centre around Ipswich Street, Bury Street and the Market Place is compact and largely level, with a market each Thursday and Saturday. The river paths along the Gipping and the open space at Chilton Fields are flat and easy to follow, which helps when people are rebuilding their walking.
Stowmarket has grown fast, with large estates at Cedars Park and Chilton Fields and new developments around the edges. Many homes are modern houses with standard staircases, while older terraces near the centre can be tighter. Many of our patients are recovering from joint replacements or rebuilding strength after a hospital stay.
Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board plans NHS services. Most people from Stowmarket attend Ipswich Hospital or the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds. Our private physiotherapy at home continues rehabilitation after discharge.
Stowmarket station is on the main line from London to Norwich, with branch services to Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. Patients often want to walk into town for the market, use the train again or follow the riverside to Needham Market.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.
