Physiotherapy Services in Tavistock
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Tavistock premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Tavistock is a handsome market town in West Devon on the western edge of Dartmoor, beside the River Tavy. Its charter dates back to 1105, and much of the town centre was rebuilt in the nineteenth century by the Dukes of Bedford using profits from local copper mines.
The Pannier Market, a covered Victorian hall off Bedford Square, holds craft, antique and produce stalls most days of the week. Tavistock forms part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, and a statue of Sir Francis Drake, born nearby at Crowndale, stands at the end of Plymouth Road.
The Meadows, a riverside park in the heart of town, have flat paths, a café and a play area, while the old Tavistock Canal runs alongside a quiet walking route towards Morwellham Quay. Open moorland with tors and granite clitter begins just to the east for anyone aiming at more ambitious walks.
Housing includes Bedford cottages built for miners, Victorian villas, post-war estates and newer homes on the outskirts. Hilly streets and stone steps are common, and many residents live in moorland villages such as Mary Tavy and Horrabridge.
NHS Devon Integrated Care Board plans care in the area. Tavistock Hospital offers some community services, while operations and emergencies usually take place at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth. We continue recovery at home once patients leave hospital.
Frequent goals include visiting the Pannier Market, walking through the Meadows or getting back onto the moor.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
