Physiotherapy Services in Topsham
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Topsham premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Topsham is a historic port on the east bank of the River Exe, just downstream from Exeter. For centuries it was busier than the city itself, handling wool, wine and timber.
Trade with the Low Countries left its mark on the Strand, where several houses have curved Dutch-style gables. Many were built with bricks that arrived as ballast in returning ships.
Topsham Museum occupies one of these merchant houses and has a lovely riverside garden. Its rooms are small and calm, which makes a visit a useful early outing.
The Goat Walk is a raised path along the river wall at the end of the Strand. It is narrow but level, with views over the estuary towards Exminster marshes.
Fore Street, the main shopping street, has a run of small family shops and old pubs. It slopes gently and has narrow pavements, so we practise care around kerbs and doorways.
Surgery for this area is usually carried out at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital at Wonford. After discharge, our physiotherapists come to you so that progress continues at home.
The Exe Estuary Trail passes through the town on a smooth, mostly flat surface. Sections of it are ideal for building walking stamina in small, measurable steps.
Older Topsham homes are often tall and narrow with steep stairs, while Newcourt has many new family houses. Each layout shapes the stair and transfer practice we plan.
Countess Wear lies to the north beside the old canal and the Exe bridges. Its streets are mostly level and well connected with Exeter.
Exton and Ebford lie across the Clyst, with the Royal Marines camp at Lympstone a little further south. Clyst St George is a quiet village among fields.
Many Topsham clients are older adults who want to keep walking to the quay and the shops. Strength and balance work helps them do that safely for longer.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.

Personalised, evidence-based nutrition and dietetic support delivered in the comfort of your home by an HCPC-registered dietitian.
