Physiotherapy Services in Tow Law
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Tow Law premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Tow Law is one of the highest towns in County Durham, standing on open moorland at around three hundred metres above sea level. Wide views stretch south and west over Weardale.
The town grew rapidly in the 1840s when ironworks were built to use local coal and ironstone. At its peak the works employed hundreds of people and the population soared.
When the ironworks closed later in the century, coal mining kept the town going for many years. The last pits have long gone, but rows of terraced houses still recall that era.
The A68 forms the long, straight High Street, with shops, chapels and a working men's club along it. The road is broad and mostly level, which suits steady walking practice.
Tow Law Town Football Club plays at Ironworks Road, one of the highest grounds in English non-league football. Getting back to a match is a goal several clients have set.
Planned surgery is usually carried out at the University Hospital of North Durham or Bishop Auckland Hospital. Our home visits help you continue your rehabilitation in your own surroundings.
Winters on this exposed ridge can be hard, with snow and strong winds. On rough days we focus on indoor strength and balance exercises that keep progress moving.
Many homes are stone or brick terraces with back yards and steep stairs. We practise stairs, steps and getting in and out of chairs in your own house.
Stanley Crook and Billy Row lie to the east on the slope towards Crook. Their streets climb noticeably, which makes them useful for later stages of recovery.
Satley and Helme Park are small hamlets among farmland and moor. Thornley and Sunniside sit on the high ground nearer the town.
Older residents here often live alone and want to keep their independence. Falls prevention work helps them stay safe in their homes through the winter months.

Specialist home-based rehabilitation to improve movement, strength, balance and independence for people living with neurological conditions.

Helping older adults maintain mobility, strength and independence safely at home.

Safe, structured recovery after surgery to restore strength, mobility and function at home.
