Physiotherapy Services in York
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in York. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist who visits you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
York is a historic walled city where medieval streets, Georgian townhouses and Victorian terraces sit side by side. Inside and near the walls, many homes are old, narrow and on several floors, and some listed buildings make adaptations harder. Suburbs such as Acomb, Holgate and Dringhouses to the west have more terraced and semi-detached housing, while Haxby, Wigginton and Fulford have bungalows and family homes popular with retired couples.
York is mostly flat, which makes it a good city for walking, but its cobbled lanes, worn pavements and busy tourist streets can be daunting after a fall. Many residents want to walk into town, along the Ouse or round the city walls again. The city also has a large older population, and recovery after joint replacements and strokes is a common reason for rehabilitation at home.
York Hospital, just north of the city walls, is run by York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are independent of the trust and of the NHS, and we do not receive your records automatically, so please share your discharge summary and any precautions. If you live in a village outside York, such as Strensall, Copmanthorpe or Poppleton, enter your postcode below to check.
Many York residents get about on foot or by bike rather than by car, so losing confidence after a fall can quickly lead to staying indoors. Park-and-ride buses from sites such as Askham Bar and Rawcliffe Bar are a common way into the centre, and practising stepping on and off a bus is a practical goal. Rowntree Park and the riverside path towards the Millennium Bridge offer level walks for building stamina.
