Physiotherapy Services in Ystrad Mynach
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Ystrad Mynach premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Ystrad Mynach is a valley town in Caerphilly county borough, on the Rhymney River north of Caerphilly. It grew in the nineteenth century with the coal industry, and Penallta Colliery, which closed in 1991, was one of the last deep mines in the valley. Its former site has become Parc Penallta, a country park with a huge earth sculpture of a pit pony called Sultan.
The town sits where the valley widens, so the centre is fairly level, but many streets climb steeply up the valley sides. Hengoed Viaduct, a tall stone railway bridge now used by walkers and cyclists, crosses the valley just to the north, and the Rhymney line runs through Ystrad Mynach station towards Cardiff.
The town is home to Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, a modern hospital opened in 2011 that provides inpatient and outpatient care for the area. Coleg y Cymoedd also has a campus here. Housing is mostly terraced, with stone and brick houses along the valley floor and newer estates on the slopes.
Aneurin Bevan University Health Board provides NHS services, with Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr for many local needs and the Grange University Hospital at Llanfrechfa for specialist and emergency care. Our private home physiotherapy fits around that care after discharge.
Many patients here are former miners or their families, often with breathing or joint problems alongside a recent operation. Goals include getting up steep terraced streets, walking in Parc Penallta and managing the train to Cardiff.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
