The Ystradgynlais welfare hall has been a centre for concerts and films since the mining years.
Ystradgynlais is a town at the head of the Swansea valley, in the southern corner of Powys. The River Tawe flows through it on its way to the sea.
The town grew with coal mining and ironworks in the nineteenth century. Rows of terraced houses still climb the slopes of the valley.
The artist Josef Herman lived here for over a decade from 1944. His paintings of local miners made the town known in the art world.
The town centre has shops, chapels and a welfare hall. Streets along the valley floor are fairly level and suit walking practice.
Craig-y-nos Castle, up the valley, was the home of the opera singer Adelina Patti. Its country park has gentle riverside paths.
Morriston Hospital in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital carry out much of the surgery for this area. Our physiotherapists visit you at home afterwards.
The Dan yr Ogof caves, a little further north, are among the largest show caves in Britain. They lie inside the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Many homes are terraces with steep stairs and steps to the door, often on slopes. We practise those steps and stairs at every visit.
Cwmgiedd lies just north-west on the Giedd stream. Abercraf and Penrhos are former mining villages up the valley.
Cwmtwrch sits on the Twrch river to the west. Coelbren and Glanrhyd lie on the hills to the east.
Many clients here are older adults who worked in heavy industry. Our therapists can work with Welsh-speaking families and focus on everyday tasks.

Rehabilitation of bones, joints, muscles and ligaments following injury, surgery or degenerative change.

Support to improve breathing, endurance and recovery for respiratory and cardiac conditions.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.
