Physiotherapy Services in Bakewell
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Bakewell premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Bakewell is the largest town in the Peak District National Park, on the River Wye in Derbyshire. It is famous for the Bakewell pudding, and its five-arched medieval bridge is one of the oldest in the county.
The riverside paths and the Recreation Ground are fairly level, and they are often where we start walking practice. The town centre around Rutland Square is close by, with benches and shops.
The Monsal Trail, a former railway line, passes Bakewell's old station above the town. It is flat and surfaced, with tunnels and viaducts, and it is one of the best routes in the area for rebuilding stamina.
People in Bakewell usually receive surgery and emergency care at Chesterfield Royal or the Northern General in Sheffield, and private home physiotherapy can carry on afterwards.
The Monday market and the Bakewell Show bring crowds into town. Getting back to the market is a goal we often hear, and we practise standing, turning and walking in busy places.
Many homes are stone cottages and terraces with steep stairs and a raised threshold, and the town is hilly away from the river. We include slopes in walking practice as people improve.
Chatsworth and Haddon Hall are close by, and visiting their grounds again is a popular longer-term goal.
Bakewell Agricultural Show each August is one of the biggest one-day shows in the country, and the showground beside the Wye is large and grassy. Walking on rough grass among livestock pens is very different from a pavement, so we include uneven-ground practice for anyone hoping to be there.

Helping people living with persistent or complex pain improve function and quality of life.

Specialist care for women through pregnancy, after birth and beyond.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.
