Barmouth, Abermaw in Welsh, is a seaside town at the mouth of the Mawddach estuary in Gwynedd. It is squeezed between the sea and steep hills, and the long wooden railway bridge across the estuary is its best-known landmark.
The promenade is long and level, with views across Cardigan Bay. It is one of the best places locally for rebuilding walking stamina.
Barmouth Bridge carries a footpath alongside the railway, and the Mawddach Trail continues to Dolgellau on an old railway line. Walking across the bridge is a popular goal once confidence is good.
Barmouth is within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Surgery and emergency care are usually at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, with private rehabilitation at home available after that.
The old town climbs the hillside in narrow stepped lanes, and Dinas Oleu, above the town, was the first property ever given to the National Trust. Those steps are a challenge we prepare for carefully.
Many residents are retired, and homes range from Victorian terraces to bungalows. We tailor exercises to each home's stairs and bathroom.
Sea wind can be strong on the promenade, so we practise balance in breezy conditions and keep an indoor routine for wild weather.
The Last Haul sculpture on the quay, carved from a single block of stone, shows three fishermen hauling a net. Ty Gwyn, a medieval tower house near the harbour, and the old roundhouse lock-up are small landmarks along the level harbour route, which help break a walk into manageable stages for people building stamina.

Specialist care for women through pregnancy, after birth and beyond.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor to support bladder, bowel and core function.
