Physiotherapy Services in Bedlington
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Bedlington premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Bedlington is a town in south-east Northumberland, between the Rivers Blyth and Wansbeck. It gave its name to the Bedlington terrier, a lamb-like dog bred by local miners, and the breed is still celebrated in the town.
Bedlington Ironworks, on the River Blyth, produced the first wrought-iron rails in 1820, which were later used by George Stephenson on early railways. Coal mining dominated the area for generations, and many families have mining heritage.
Front Street, a wide tree-lined conservation area, holds most of the shops and cafés. Plessey Woods Country Park, just south, has riverside walks through ancient woodland, and Humford Mill, on the River Blyth, offers flat paths and a picnic area.
Housing includes colliery terraces, post-war council estates and newer developments. Many residents are retired miners or their families, and breathing problems and joint pain are common reasons for physiotherapy.
NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans local care. Bedlington patients are usually treated at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington or Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington. We continue rehabilitation at home.
Goals include walking Front Street, exploring Plessey Woods or walking the dog by Humford Mill again.
Bedlington gave its name to the lamb-like Bedlington Terrier, first bred by local miners and nailmakers. The Bedlington Ironworks rolled wrought-iron rails used on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, a proud piece of town heritage. Front Street, broad and lined with grassy verges, offers flat pavement for early walking practice, and Humford Mill and the wooded Blyth riverside paths towards Plessey Woods Country Park suit patients progressing to longer, varied ground as stamina returns.

Reducing the risk of falls and improving safe, confident movement at home and in the community.

Supporting people living with or recovering from cancer to rebuild strength and quality of life.
