Betws-y-Coed is a village in the Conwy valley, at the meeting of the Conwy, Llugwy and Lledr rivers, on the edge of Eryri. It became popular with Victorian artists and is now a centre for walkers.
The village green and the riverside path by the Llugwy are fairly level, and they are good places for early walking practice. Pont-y-Pair, the old stone bridge, is a short walk away.
Swallow Falls, just upstream, has steps down to the viewing points. It is a later goal for people who are steady on their feet.
Betws-y-Coed is within Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Surgery and emergency care are usually at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd or Ysbyty Gwynedd, with private rehabilitation at home available after that.
Gwydyr Forest surrounds the village, with trails that range from gentle to very steep. We choose the gentlest first.
Many homes are stone cottages and guest houses with steep stairs. We adapt exercises to your home.
The village has a station on the Conwy Valley line, and a trip to Llandudno is a goal some people have.
St Michael's, the small medieval church by the golf course, is one of the oldest buildings in the village and has a level path to its door. The Conwy Falls café and the Fairy Glen gorge to the south are popular outings, though both involve steps and slopes that we would prepare for carefully beforehand.
