We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Bollington premises to walk into. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Bollington is a small town in Cheshire East, on the edge of the Peak District just north of Macclesfield. It grew around cotton mills in the nineteenth century, and stone terraces still climb the hillsides above the River Dean.
The town is known as Happy Valley, and its landmark is White Nancy, a small whitewashed folly on top of Kerridge Hill. The climb is steep, so reaching it is usually a long-term goal rather than an early one.
The Macclesfield Canal crosses the town on a tall aqueduct, and the Middlewood Way runs along an old railway line. Both offer level, firm paths that are ideal for building stamina once people are walking confidently outside.
Many homes are stone cottages and terraces with steep stairs and steps up from the road. Those details shape our sessions, especially for people who have had a hip or knee replacement or a stroke.
Bollington falls within NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board. Residents are usually treated at Macclesfield District General Hospital, and once they are discharged we can continue rehabilitation privately at home.
Palmerston Street has local shops, pubs and the Bollington Arts Centre. The town has no railway station, so buses to Macclesfield and cars are the main ways to travel, which makes car transfers an important skill.
Kerridge and Rainow are hillside villages, with steep lanes and stone walls. In these areas we help people with slopes, uneven ground and gates as they start walking outdoors again.
The hills can be tiring, so we often begin with flat routes along the canal or the Middlewood Way and build up to the steeper streets.
