We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Brechin premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Brechin is a historic city in Angus, set beside the River South Esk between Forfar and Montrose. Its long history as an ecclesiastical centre gives it a special character among Scottish towns.
Brechin Cathedral stands next to an eleventh-century Round Tower, one of only two of its kind in mainland Scotland. The High Street and Clerk Street hold local shops and cafés.
The Caledonian Railway heritage line runs steam and diesel trains from Brechin to Bridge of Dun, and Glebe Park, home of Brechin City, is famous for the hedge along one side of the pitch.
Housing includes sandstone terraces and villas near the centre, council-built estates and newer homes on the edges. Steep wynds and steps run down towards the river.
NHS Tayside and the Angus Health and Social Care Partnership provide statutory services. Brechin patients may be treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee or Stracathro Hospital nearby, and we continue rehabilitation at home.
Buses link Brechin with Montrose, Forfar and Dundee, and Montrose is the nearest mainline station. Common goals include walking to the High Street, round the cathedral or along the South Esk.
The riverside paths by the South Esk are mostly level, which makes them a good early target after surgery.
Some wynds near the cathedral are steep and uneven, so we rehearse slopes and steps at home first.
Maisondieu Lane, the Mechanics Institute on Montrose Street and the Brechin Community Campus are other frequent destinations, and a seated return trip on the heritage railway to Bridge of Dun often becomes a celebratory target near the end of rehabilitation.
