Bridge of Allan is a Victorian spa town just north of Stirling, built along the Allan Water at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Its grand villas and wooded streets reflect the years when visitors came to take the mineral waters.
Henderson Street, the main shopping street, is broad and mostly level. Walking its length, with a stop at one of the cafes, is a practical early milestone for anyone rebuilding confidence on their feet.
Paths follow the Allan Water through the town, and the Darn Walk continues upstream towards Dunblane through woodland. The first stretches are gentle, while the further sections are uneven and suit the later stages of recovery.
The town is served by NHS Forth Valley, and surgery and emergency care usually take place at Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert. Private home physiotherapy can follow on once you are discharged.
Many of the older streets climb steeply towards the hills, and the University of Stirling campus sits beside the town. Those climbs earn their place in later rehabilitation, and we introduce them gradually.
The National Wallace Monument on Abbey Craig is close by. Climbing its spiral stairs is an ambitious target that some people enjoy aiming for once stair strength has returned.
Housing includes large stone villas with long staircases, tenement flats and modern homes. We fit exercises to the rooms and steps you deal with every day.
Damp, chilly weather is common at the foot of the Ochils, so an indoor routine keeps your plan moving on the wettest days.
