Physiotherapy Services in Carrickfergus
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Carrickfergus premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Carrickfergus is one of the oldest towns in Northern Ireland, on the northern shore of Belfast Lough in Mid and East Antrim. Its Norman castle, begun in the twelfth century, stands on a rock at the water's edge, and parts of the town walls survive around the old centre. The promenade, marina and castle area are level, so they suit early outdoor practice.
The ground rises steadily away from the shore. Estates such as Sunnylands, Castlemara and Woodburn sit on higher ground, with post-war and later houses, and some streets are steep. Greenisland, towards Belfast, has many family homes and bungalows, and the old centre has terraces with narrow stairs. Many people we see want to manage the slope down to the shops and the walk back up.
The Marine Highway promenade runs from the castle past the marina towards Kilroot and is popular with walkers. Shaftesbury Park, by the water, has short level paths, while the Glens of Woodburn give longer woodland walks for later stages. Carrickfergus, Clipperstown, Downshire and Greenisland stations are on the Larne line to Belfast, so train trips are a common goal.
Hospital care for the area is provided by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, with Antrim Area Hospital as the main acute site, though some people are treated at hospitals in Belfast. Community rehabilitation is organised by the same Trust. Our physiotherapists work privately and independently, so share any information from the hospital and we will build on it at home.
