Physiotherapy Services in Carterton
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Carterton premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Carterton, in West Oxfordshire, is a young town by English standards. It was founded in 1901 by William Carter, who bought farmland and sold it off in plots as smallholdings for people wanting to leave the cities. For decades it remained a scattered settlement of market gardens and bungalows until the RAF arrived next door.
RAF Brize Norton, the largest station in the Royal Air Force, now dominates the town’s economy and identity. Many residents are service personnel, veterans or their families, and big transport aircraft passing low overhead are a familiar sight. Housing ranges from early smallholder cottages and bungalows to service family estates and large newer developments such as Shilton Park.
The land is almost entirely flat, which makes outdoor walking easier than in the hillier Cotswold towns nearby. Kilkenny Lane Country Park, on the eastern edge, has level paths around lakes and meadows, and the shops are concentrated along Alvescot Road and Black Bourton Road. Carterton has no railway, so buses to Witney and Oxford are vital.
Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board plans NHS services for the town. Most people go to the John Radcliffe or the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford for surgery, with some community care in Witney. Our home physiotherapy is private and independent and follows on after discharge.
Common goals include walking to the shops, managing the bus into Oxford or getting back to activities with family. Some veterans have long-standing back, knee or shoulder problems from service, and we plan around those as well as any recent operation.
