Physiotherapy Services in Consett
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Consett premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Consett sits high on the edge of the Pennines in north-west County Durham, about 900 feet above sea level. The town was dominated by its steelworks for more than a century until they closed in 1980, and the site has since been redeveloped with housing, a retail park and green space.
Terraced houses built for steelworkers fill the streets of Blackhill, Leadgate and Delves Lane, many with steep back lanes and yards. Shotley Bridge, in the Derwent valley, has older stone houses and larger villas, while Moorside and newer estates sit on the exposed higher ground, where winter weather can make getting out difficult.
Several former railway lines have become level paths, including the Derwent Walk towards Gateshead and the Consett and Sunderland Railway Path. These give people a flat surface in hilly country, ideal for building stamina. Blackhill and Consett Park has gentle paths and benches near the town centre.
The University Hospital of North Durham in Durham City, run by County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, provides most surgery and emergency care, and Shotley Bridge Community Hospital runs a few local clinics. NHS services are planned by the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. We are a private service, independent of the NHS.
Buses link Consett with Newcastle, Durham and Stanley, and the Front Street shops are a common goal. Many people we see here want to manage the steep streets and back lanes again, walk the railway path with family, or get to the bus stop safely in winter.
