Physiotherapy Services in Gateshead
Home Physio And Rehab is based in Harrow, north-west London, and has no clinic or office in Gateshead. Every appointment is a home visit, and the physiotherapist who visits you may be based elsewhere and travel to your home. Whether we can see you depends on your postcode and on therapist availability at the time you ask.
Gateshead sits on the south bank of the Tyne opposite Newcastle, and much of it climbs steeply away from the river. Older areas such as Saltwell, Bensham and Felling have long rows of terraces and Tyneside flats, where upstairs flats have their own steep internal staircase. Low Fell and Whickham have larger Victorian and inter-war homes, while Wrekenton, Birtley and Ryton include post-war estates and newer housing.
Banks are a big part of daily life here, and many streets are steep enough to be hard work after an operation or illness. Saltwell Park has wide paths, a lake and benches that are useful for building stamina, and the riverside near the quays is level. We plan sessions around the slopes and stairs you face every day, then build up to longer outings.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Sheriff Hill provides emergency and planned care for Gateshead, with some specialist treatment in Newcastle. We are independent of these hospitals and of the NHS, so please have your discharge summary and any precautions ready when we first talk.
The Angel of the North stands on a hill above Low Fell, and the Millennium Bridge, the Baltic arts centre and the Sage music venue line the Gateshead quays, where the riverside walk is level and step-free. The Metrocentre, one of the largest shopping centres in the country, is entirely indoors and flat, which makes it a useful practice space in bad weather. Gateshead also has its own stadium in Felling. Many residents rely on the Tyne and Wear Metro, so practising lifts, escalators and getting on and off trains at stations such as Gateshead Interchange is often one of the first outdoor goals.
