Physiotherapy Services in Dorchester
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Dorchester premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Dorchester is the county town of Dorset, a compact market town that Thomas Hardy made famous as Casterbridge. The High Street runs east to west down a gentle hill, and the tree-lined Walks follow the line of the old Roman town walls, giving level, shaded routes around the centre. Maumbury Rings, a Neolithic henge later used as a Roman amphitheatre, sits near the station.
Poundbury, on the western side, is the urban extension developed on Duchy of Cornwall land with the backing of King Charles. Its streets are built close together around squares, with many townhouses over three floors, so stairs are often the main challenge there. Fordington and the older parts of town have Victorian terraces and cottages, and surrounding villages such as Broadmayne and Charlton Down have many bungalows.
Good walking goals include the Walks, the water meadows along the River Frome, and Borough Gardens with its bandstand and level paths. Maiden Castle, the huge Iron Age hillfort to the south-west, is a longer-term goal for keen walkers. Dorchester has two stations, Dorchester South and Dorchester West, on different lines, and the market on Wednesdays is a popular trip.
Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester provides acute and emergency care for much of the county, so many people return home from there after surgery or a fracture. NHS services are planned by NHS Dorset, the Integrated Care Board. Our physiotherapists are independent, so share your discharge letter and any precautions and we will build our sessions around them.
