Physiotherapy Services in Goole
We run the service from Harrow in north-west London; there is no Goole premises to walk into. Sessions take place in your own home, and the clinician assigned to you may be travelling in from elsewhere. We can only confirm a visit once we know your full postcode and which therapists are free when you get in touch.
Goole is an inland port in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where the Ouse meets the Aire and Calder Navigation, far upstream of the Humber estuary. The town was largely built in the 1820s by the Aire and Calder company, which explains its grid of streets and the handsome early terraces around the docks.
Two tall water towers, known locally as the Salt and Pepper Pots, dominate the skyline and are visible for miles across the flat Humberhead Levels. Tom Pudding compartment boats once carried coal down the canal to be tipped into ships by giant hoists, and one of these hoists survives beside South Dock.
The Yorkshire Waterways Museum on Dutch River Side tells that story and has a café overlooking the basin. Boothferry Road and the pedestrianised Pasture Road area hold most of the shops, the market hall sits off Boothferry Road, and West Park offers flat lawns, a bandstand and a children's play area.
Homes range from dockside Victorian terraces and inter-war council housing to newer estates towards Airmyn and Hook, and plenty of residents live in the surrounding villages such as Rawcliffe, Snaith and Howden. Because the surrounding countryside barely rises, outdoor walking practice is simpler here, though winter winds off the river can be bitter.
NHS Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board plans local services. Goole and District Hospital provides some outpatient and rehabilitation care, while operations and emergency treatment usually happen at Scunthorpe General or further afield in Hull. Our private home physiotherapy picks up where hospital treatment leaves off, in the patient's own surroundings.
Goals we often hear include managing the walk along Boothferry Road to the market, watching the barges at the museum, or getting back to the bowling greens and allotments that many older Goole residents love.
